When we blogged you used to cry

13:13 Charles points me at what isessentially an idiot's guide to, eh testing your Mac's (password) security. Download, compile, and see how frightened you get.

In the beginning

12:41 Just come across an interesting view of the account in Genesis. Genesis Unbound takes the view that the creation of the Universe is covered in Genesis 1:1, and the subsequent verses are not about the 'earth'; rather they described the setting up and repurposing of the 'land', i.e. the 'Promised Land'. The review makes interesting reading, but unfortunately the book itself seems out of print. Anyone got a copy?

Account for this

12:15 Yow. Strong words about the UofC's accounting system. Amusing and sickening at the same time.

Here Be Dragons

09:15 Um. Ouch Very briefly, at least (and 239 absorbs neutrons, by the way: you want the 235).

10:05 Update: I think they mean plutonium 239, which is the fissile doohickey.

War is hell

12:20 While googling for something else, I came across an application of the 'Art of War'. The first chapter, modulo the Taoist crap, makes very interesting reading.

He doesn't have a clue

10:07 Our very own Wilhelm Frick is at it again. The post-(Second World)war experience with identity papers should be enough evidence that the obscene argument that we need ID cards to deal with illegal immigrants is bogus. Just because David Blunkett is blind doesn't mean he makes a good minister - people need to see through the blanket of affirmative action (don't get me started on giving university places to people who aren't any good . . .) and political correctness and realize that the biggest threat to our country is right there in Whitehall. All you morons who voted for the current pricks better buck your ideas up next around.

Who farted?

20:36 Gorgeous photos of Isabel. That one's taken from the International Space Station, cool. Those vortices in the eye are about ten miles across, apparently, and have the meteorologists in a tizz because that kind of effect is somewhat rare. Going to have to snarf some of those high res shots for my 'Nature' screen saver folder.

Voom #2

21:40 So Harro has found some people putting 'these babies' to good use. A 1/10 tractor puller, and apparently a push-bike (how typically Dutch), but the site is down right now and I can't verify it.

Update 16Sep03 It's a scooter, not a bike. Ever more madderer.

oOo

16:12 Just burned OpenOffice to a CD. I'll let you know how I fare.

Score!

16:10 Once upon a time, my mate Charles sent me an email with a URL, http://www.consignmentmanager.com/. This was a spamhaus repository.

Note the past tense. A monk in .nl informs me today that the website has been nuked. Hoorah!

Belfries and batology

15:37 Occasionally, just occasionally, the Grauniard of all places restores some of my faith in journalism. A very interesting story on faith and science appeared last week (but I've only just got ftp access back - see below). Apparently there are meetings to discuss these things in a very civilized manner. Good stuff. R. D. still doesn't get it, though.

Bats in the belfry

15:27 This story is completely weird. Batty, in fact.

Apology

11:57 I'm going to have to upgrade this account. Too much downtime. Sorry all.

Voom

14:15 I'm sure I could come up with a use for these babies. Voom, I say, voom.

Gettin' warm, Ma

14:12 Is it me, or doesn't anyone know what cause and effect means anymore?
